‘think’ edition 5: Clearing the air: the UK’s plan for a smoke free generation

Our fifth publication in the ‘think’ series has been authored by IFoA Honorary Fellow Nicola Draper.

‘Cleaning the air’ centres on the Smoking and Vapes Bill, initially introduced prior to the general election, and reintroduced in Labour’s King’s Speech. The bill proposes that from 1 January 2027, anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 will never be able to be legally sold tobacco. The piece supports the bill, and provides UK and international context to its need.

Read the complete publication to find out more about how actuarial analysis will be crucial in tracking the bill’s effectiveness once implemented.
