In 2022, the GI Board would like to recognise Ronald Richman for his outstanding contribution to non-life actuarial profession.
“I am very grateful to the GI Board for making this award and to all my co-authors with whom I have been privileged to research the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to actuarial topics. I hope this award inspires other actuaries to learn about and consider using these techniques in their own work.”
Ron is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries with extensive experience in Life and General Insurance practice, focusing on reserving, capital modelling and ERM. Over the course of his career, he has gained a deep understanding of actuarial techniques and has particular expertise in machine learning, deep learning, and neural networks.
He has published 20 actuarial papers across a wide range of topics, and only last month, his paper on 'LASSO Regularization within the LocalGLMnet Architecture' with Mario Wuthrich won the RGA Prize for Best Paper at the Actuarial Society of South Africa’s 2022 Convention and the Swiss Re Prize for the Best Paper on Risk or Reinsurance.
