In 2022, the GI Board 2022 awarded the IFoA Lifetime Achievement Award to Susan Dreksler. This award recognises an actuary’s significant service either volunteering for the IFoA and working in the Actuarial GI field
"I am, of course, delighted and honoured to receive this award. I have got so much out of volunteering for the institute. It has given me opportunities to hone my professional skills in many ways. I am most grateful for the opportunity I had to develop my presentation skills. Not only did I get over my chronic fear of presenting but I discovered that I really enjoy it!
I have also gained so many wise, interesting, and caring friends. To be given this award on top of all that is astounding. I just want to say a huge thank you for all of it."
With a career spanning over 30 years, Susan has worked in life, general and health insurance both in-house and as a consultant, most recently becoming a partner at KPMG.
Susan has also undertaken significant volunteering roles for the IFoA, including presenting at countless conferences, chairing the General Insurance Reserving Oversight Committee and the London Market Actuaries Group, as well as being a member of the GI Board.
Her work as Chair of the General Insurance Solvency II Technical Provisions Working Party culminated in receiving the 2013 Brian Hey prize for the Working Party’s research paper which helped many actuaries navigate the often confusing requirements around calculating Solvency II Technical Provisions in line with the regulations.
Overall, Susan has been a fantastic role model for many across the industry and we congratulate her on her significant achievements and well-deserved award.
