25 August 2023
On Monday 17 July we published details of proposed amendments to Regulations 2-6 and 10-12 of the IFoA’s constitution. These are required in order to start the implementation process on a series of measures designed to strengthen and modernise the IFoA’s governance. These measures were agreed by Council at its meeting on 14 June 2023.
194 members submitted formal objections to the proposed amendments to the Regulations during the 28-day notice period given for the proposals.
Given there were over 50 objections, in accordance with Rule 19A of our constitution, Council is now required to re-consider the amendments, taking into account the views expressed by the members.
This reconsideration will happen at a Council meeting taking place on Friday 1 September 2023.
We are aware that a number of objections suggested that the governance changes should be reviewed by Council after our upcoming Annual General Meeting on 6 September 2023, so that the Council members for the 2023-24 session – including those members who will be elected to Council at the conclusion of this year’s Council election process – may carry out the reconsideration. Council will meet on 1st September 2023 to discuss all of the objections received, including those relating to the timing of its re-consideration. It will then be for Council to consider how to proceed in light of the objections received.
The outcome of the meeting, with reasons for any decision(s) taken, will be published on our website in advance of our AGM on Wednesday 6 September 2023.
