Data Science Community – GenAI Working Party – members

The IFoA Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Working Party is seeking enthusiastic members to contribute to advancements and applications in general insurance, life, health and care, pensions, finance and investments, risk management, and other related fields.

The objectives and activities of this working party include:

  • organising educational events, for example:
    • hosting thought-provoking webinars on current trends and challenges in the field
    • conducting workshops that encourage collaboration between industry practitioners and academics
  • exploring cutting-edge topics, for example:
    • investigating the capabilities of GenAI in the context of financial modelling and insurance end-to-end processes including risk mitigation and management
    • identifying best practices in regard to deployment of GenAI applications within insurance and finance domains
    • undertaking case studies to explore practical applications of GenAI in various actuarial sectors
  • disseminating findings, for example:
    • publishing research results in The Actuary magazine and other academic journals
    • sharing insights through blogs and social media platforms, including LinkedIn
    • presenting at conferences to engage with a wider audience

Person specification

Applications are welcomed from both members of the IFoA and non-members. We are particularly interested in volunteers with relevant experience in GenAI with below qualifications:

  • You are an actuary, data scientist, or technologist who develops tools or applications or provides consulting services that incorporate GenAI to expedite actuarial or insurance-related tasks
  • Or you are an academic in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning

However, the working party is open to everyone with a general understanding and who has time to contribute.

Time commitment

Volunteers are asked to devote at least two days per month to perform research, collaborate and write up case studies. This includes participation at monthly online meetings lasting approximately one hour to allow us to widen this opportunity to all members. Calls will be arranged at a mutually convenient time for all involved. They may also be offered the chance to present at conferences or industry events.
