Data science – Actuarial Data Science Working Party – members

Application closing date: 27 October

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) has an active and diverse, member-led working party that plans to create a practitioners’ guide/systematic review of AI applications in actuarial science.

The scope of the working party is to:

  • investigate whether the actuarially driven departments in commercial/NL/L&H insurance companies could improve their output through the use of machine learning/AI techniques
  • decide based on available scientific and business literature whether the novel algorithms open the door to better data insights, higher quality predictive models or introduce excess disruption in a particular actuarial domain

Time commitment

Meetings are generally held bi-weekly via video conferencing. Meetings will be arranged at a mutually convenient time for all involved. There will be no requirement for volunteers to meet in one place.

There is an expectation that working party members will undertake research between meetings and prepare for meetings, with a time commitment of up to one day per month.
