Thu 10 Oct 2024 - In ‘Climate Scorpion’, the latest in our series of climate change papers produced with scientists at the University of Exeter and the Climate Crisis Advisory Group, we coined the phrase ‘Planetary Solvency’, exploring how we could use actuarial techniques to help society manage climate change and other risks.
In this paper, we expand this concept and show how actuarial solvency techniques, informed by cutting edge science, can be used to help us successfully navigate the challenges of the new geological era referred to as the Anthropocene.
As actuaries, we are trusted to minimise the risk of failure by managing complex risk. In this session, the authors of ‘Planetary Solvency’ present the report’s key findings and take questions on how policymakers can leverage these methods to mitigate the climate risks we face as a society, to avoid the risk of ruin.
