We are currently recruiting a Copywriter for a Permanent contract.
This role is hybrid, mostly working from home and occasionally in one of our hubs.
We encourage our colleagues to work flexibly between home and the hub to suit their needs and preferences, in line with our hybrid working policy.
Colleagues are able to work their hours flexibly, in line with core business hours and requirements. We also offer formalised flexible working agreements.
The starting salary is £33,345, or £36,575 if London based.

Purpose of the job
The Copywriter will research, write and edit high quality and engaging copy for a wide variety of uses across the IFoA including articles, blogs, emails, social media posts, web pages, brochures and flyers, and video scripts.
The Copywriter will play an important role in in conveying the IFoA’s work into prose that engages and interests readers. A key part of the role is the ability to adapt the content and style of writing to be appropriate for the medium and the audience.
Principal accountabilities
- Conduct thorough research based on creative briefs to understand the information that has to be communicated and the needs of the target audience.
- Draft clear, concise, and engaging copy across various mediums such as articles, blogs, emails, social media posts, web pages, brochures and flyers, and video scripts.
- Produce high-quality, error-free content that aligns with, and supports, the IFoA brand
- Identify and understand the target audience and use the IFoA’s need states approach to tailor the content and style of writing to be appropriate and engaging for each medium and audience.
- Use effective SEO techniques to optimise copy on digital platforms for search engines.
- Proofread, edit and fact-check all copy to ensure accuracy, consistency and adherence to brand guidelines and relevant industry regulations.
- Use storytelling techniques and creative approaches to make ideas more accessible and interesting to readers.
- Collaborate with other Marketing and Propositions team members and subject matter experts and contribute ideas towards communications and marketing plans
- Continuously research and stay updated with trends, techniques, and best practices in copywriting and content marketing.

- The Copywriter will need to be able to translate the work of the IFoA into copy that is understandable to a wide audience.
- The Copywriter will need to understand the needs and interest of a wide range of audiences and tailor copy accordingly
- The Copywriter will need to understand what works best across different mediums and adapt their approach and style accordingly
- Best practices in copy for digital platforms such as web and social media can change quickly and frequently and the Copywriter will be expected to keep pace with the latest innovations
Knowledge and experience
Essential experience
- Proven track record as a copywriter either in-house or for an agency
- Ability to write copy for a broad range of purposes and mediums from campaign taglines to feature length articles
- Experience of writing compelling copy for a range of different audiences
- Experience of copy editing and proof reading others work
Desirable experience
- Knowledge of the actuarial profession or copywriting experience for a financial services organisation
- Experience of working for a professional body or membership association
- Experience of writing with SEO in mind
- Experience of writing for social media audiences
Additional information
This role is hybrid and you therefore you must be able to attend either the London, Edinburgh or Oxford offices for meetings as required.
