The IFoA Mental Health working party look back over their week of blogs and podcasts considering all aspects of the relationship between mental health and life insurance. The expert panel spans adviser, underwriter and actuarial experience and they explore triggers for purchasing insurance relating to mental health, the various routes to insurance and how these may be more suited to different people depending on their conditions and preferences, the products and processes involved in purchasing these as well as what claims and support are available to policyholders and how to access them. The working party have also been considering what examples there are of best practice in the industry currently as well as what we can do to keep improving our products, practices and processes in this area.
John Brazier is an experienced B2B journalist and editor. He took on the position of editor for COVER in February 2021. He was previously editor of The Trade, a buy-side publication for a readership of global asset managers, hedge funds and traders. Prior to this, John spent three years with WatersTechnology, a fintech publication with a global audience, where he held roles of European staff writer and then deputy editor, working across the buy- and sell-side brands of the title. He has also worked on a number of energy, personal finance, retail IT and technology brands.
Kathryn is a specialist insurance adviser working within the personal, business and group life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection sector. She offers advice within the UK and internationally. Kathryn is known for her ability to humanise protection conversations, bringing empathy to conversations with clients, where sensitive matters are being discussed. She also produces videos and a podcast that are used within the insurance sector, by charities and the general public, as a way to educate about ways to access insurance and to challenge mindsets.
Lisa Balboa is a Business Development Actuary at Hannover Re UK Life Branch and is passionate about supporting innovation across the protection insurance industry. Lisa is Deputy Chair of the IFoA’s Mental Health Working Party, championing increased awareness and understanding of mental health amongst actuaries and insurance professionals.
